Nutrition Counseling

Nutrition Counseling

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is a therapeutic approach to treating medical conditions through dietary changes administered by a registered dietitian nutritionist. This is the type of nutrition counseling covered by most insurance companies, and selectively by medicare and medicaid. It involves an initial assessment and reassessments of diet, blood work, symptoms, and weight.

What to expect at your visit:

First Visit: A 60 to 90 minute meeting where we review your past medical history, medications, supplements, labs or imaging, and current lifestyle. By the end of this appointment, you will leave with at least 2-3 actionable goals and/or homework to improve your current situation. We likely won't be able to address all questions or concerns in one visit.

Follow Up Visits: 45 to 75 minute meetings where we follow up on homework, goals, and set new goals. We spend most of our time in conversation, brainstorming, coming up with strategies, and answering questions.

Nutrition counseling is a holistic approach to lifestyle management of medical conditions. When you are seen for nutrition counseling, we do an initial lifestyle assessment of all factors that may influence your dietary choices. Most time is spent in conversation, where we talk about education and strategy. We may also do anthropometric assessment, device or dietary demonstration. Do come with an expectation to deep dive into your diet and lifestyle!
