While our front desk may help with answering whether we accept your particular insurance, we do not contact your insurance to verify whether your plan covers naturopathic care. We include an insurance verification form with our intake paperwork, but if you would like to verify coverage prior to scheduling, we recommend you call the number on the back of your insurance card and gather details there.

Your insurance company will not cover any supplements or natural remedies that you may purchase at our clinic. We do accept HSA/FSA cards and can supply you with any documentation you may need for reimbursement.

After your visit, we will bill your insurance company the procedure codes that are applicable for the services you received at our clinic. Each procedure code is called a CPT code and are all separately processed by your insurance company. (Please find a list of the commonly used CPT codes at our clinic below.) We will bill upfront for any uncovered services and copays.

Once your claim is processed, we will send you a bill with the amount your insurance company has deemed the patient's responsibility. This includes any deductible or coinsurance.

Even though our office provides primary care, all our providers are naturopathic physicians. Under some insurance plans, naturopathic physicians are processed as specialists regardless of the services we provide. Typically insurance companies will cover preventative care (vaccines, annual exams, well child checks) at 100% but all other services are subject to what your benefits are.

Unfortunately, we cannot control the way that your insurance company processes our services under your specific plan. You can, however, contact your insurance directly to discuss this in more detail.

Do you want to verify your insurance coverage but are unsure of where to start? We completely understand. Here are some basic questions to ask the customer service representative to see what your plan covers and how it works.

To begin, make sure you have your insurance card and locate the customer service number on the back. When you call, they will ask you to verify the ID number, as well as your name and birthday.

When you have a customer service representative on the phone, here are some questions to ask:

• Is my coverage currently active? When does my coverage reset?
• What is my deductible?
• What is my copay or coinsurance?
• Does my policy cover naturopathic medicine?
• Is Dr. ______ (specific name) listed as ‘in-network’ with my plan?
• Is a naturopathic physician listed as a specialist on my plan?

Preventative Medicine: Annual Exams and Well Child check-ups are visits that focus on preventative care to keep you/your kids healthy and catch problems early. Typical wellness visits include a physical exam, checking of the vitals, going over personal/family history, immunizations, and discussing current lifestyle and health choices. These visits aim to maximize your current health and prevent any health-related problems from occurring in the future.

If there are any additional concern (ie: rashes, headaches, illnesses, ADHD, lab review, etc.) that is evaluated or treated in the context of a preventative wellness exam, it is at the doctor’s courtesy to take care of it during the wellness visit, rather than having you return a different day to have that concern addressed. Any diagnosis in addition to the wellness diagnosis is then added as a brief additional billing code (not separate, but “attached” to the wellness visit). When an additional diagnosis is a part of a wellness visit, your insurance company will consider that visit subject to a copay (if you have copays).

Please inform your physician if you do not wish to address anything outside the realm of a preventive care visit. If you are unsure whether or not an additional concern will be billed separately, you are welcome to ask your physician. As always, it is your responsibility to know your medical insurance benefits.

Problem-oriented Visit: When you come in to see one of our physicians for a specific problem you may be having, the entirety of your visit will be focused on thoroughly discussing the details of what you are experiencing. If this is the first visit related to this problem, you can expect a diagnosis and a treatment plan to be created for you, as well as any medication or supplement recommendations. Going forward, these problem visits will be geared toward managing the ongoing health concerns in a variety of ways that best serve you.

Office visits are coded based on time spent and the complexity of the visit. Time spent is not just face-to-face time with your provider but also includes research before and after a visit, writing referrals, ordering labs, etc.
